Join accomplished photographer Dan Splaine and Irish Guide, Olcan Masterson through Western Ireland.Intense cultural curiosity and a genuine affinity for people inspire Dan’s travel photography. A reverence for nature and being outdoors motivates his natural history imagery. Whether on assignment or leading a workshop, Dan brings his craftsmanship and zeal for photography to each new experience. He brings his enthusiasm for image making to each class and workshop and freely shares his acquired wisdom with students. Dan has been the beneficiary of generous mentors, and therefore he feels an obligation to honor their example. His objective as a photo educator is to build skills and help students acquire creative control of their photography.

Dan’s two greatest passions in life are image making and travel. With his camera he has traveled to more than fifty countries capturing his observations and experiences. For over thirty years he has been producing images for regional and national clients in locations all over the world and is equally comfortable shooting in the jungle as he is a corporate boardroom. His professional career began with a four year enlistment as a US Army photographer, and spans from the silver based era to the emergence of digital technology. He operates a commercial studio in New Hampshire and offers photography tours and workshops for adults.

Olcan Masterson, a walking authority on the history of western Ireland, has spent many years exploring the hills and back roads of the area. An accomplished musician as well, he has spread traditional Irish music all over Europe and the U.S. with his flute and tin whistle. Mostly though, he is a living embodiment of Irish charm and hospitality. He will show you the spirit and soul of Ireland, as few visitors will ever experience it. You will get a view of the land and the culture that comes with living it, not merely visiting it.

Your itinerary is set in the unspoiled villages, rugged ancient abbeys, broad peat lowlands, and the dramatic coastline of Western Ireland. The soft pastel shades of the mountains and clouds appeal to the artist and photographer. These natural landscapes, along with the people, render this Isle a place of inspirational beauty. We will visit places you could never locate on your own — tiny villages, hidden beaches, castles, and ancient abbeys. There are spectacular monastic and megalithic ruins to seek out in your daily adventures.
