week PHOTO WALK

One of my goals for 2012 is to help the
photographer’s who attend my workshops to really step up their photography. The best way to become a better
photographer is to practice your skills on a regular basis. I would like to invite you to join me for a fun photo
project that will provide a means of regular practice and a way to improve your photo
skills!
The concept is simple- I challenge you to commit to
spending an half hour once a week working on your photography! Here are
the details and rules of the
challenge.
You spend at least one half hour each week walking with your camera
You commit to shooting and posting once every week of the year
You can walk anywhere you like
Post any images of any subject that you want to share
Look at the work others post and particpate in the online conversation
This all about
making a commitment, a resolution for the New Year to invest a small amount of time
each week working on your photo skills. It isFREE to joinso there can not be
any reasonable excuse to not jump in!
How it works and how it works for
you
There are no restrictions on
where you take your photo walk and what your photograph.
Those choices are entirely up to you. What matters is that you spend a minimum of one half
hour walking with your camera and capturing images. Your walk can be in your
own backyard or through the streets of Paris
.
Commit to putting this activity in your schedule once every week of the year. Plan on
creating and sharing 52 new images in 2012
.
All of the images are going to be posted and shared on a Flickr group page that
I have organized called “IMAGE MAKER's 52 week PHOTO WALK". FLICKR is a photo sharing social networking
site and FREE to join. This is the best platform for a group activity
and discussion.
Walking with your camera provides you a chance to slow down and think through
your creative process. Take that weekly half hour and concentrate on your image making. Good
photography is all about careful observation and a slow walk free of distractions is good way to practice this
skill.
Posting online provides a weekly goal and deadline that motivate your commitment
to spending time improving your photography. The deadline
for your weekly post of a single image is Saturday at midnight.
During the week make sure you check out other folks images and keep up with the comments.
Participating in the online discussion will provide you insight from your peers
about your photography. Use the discussion features of the
online posting to help yourself and others to improve your skill. Provide thoughtful analysis and be open to
helpful critique- use this forum for feedback and as an additional learning tool.
Jump in and make a solid commitment to see this through for the entire
year. Having a weekly goal and deadline to meet is an
excellent tool for improving your photography. You will see
improvement in your work when you embrace the discipline of this modest investment in regular
practice!
