PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY and STUDIO
LIGHTING
DIGITAL PHOTO BOOT
CAMP
This workshop explores the
relationship between photographer and portrait subjects, posing and portrait composition and introduces the
photography student to studio lighting. In this workshop we will
demonstrate studio portrait techniques and the students will practice with multiple lighting
set-ups.
Photography of people and the portrait creation process is an important skill for
photographers and one of the hardest to master. Successful portraiture
is a combination of well practiced camera technique and understanding of lighting. Great portraits are also
the product of a rapport between the photographer and the subject, which requires empathy and understanding
like any other successful relationship.
In this workshop we explore
how to creatively photograph people, to make portraits that are revealing and flattering. We will introduce the
students to different basic lighting techniques that they can employ in photographing people.
This workshop is recommended to photographers who have some
experience and have a good understanding of exposure controls. We will be working with
available light and studio flash units during the practice sessions. The ability to connect
point and shoot cameras to studio light is limited so a digital SLR is required.
